The dune that wasn't there

We found the perfect dune on a scout. Three weeks later the wind had moved it.

Theo Lindqvist, director

Letter cover

Dune Run was written around one shape: a long, clean ridge with a car cutting across it at dawn. We found it on a scout in March. When we came back to shoot, the wind had flattened it into a gentle slope.

Rebuilding a landscape

We shot the car on what was left, with the camera height and lens we had planned for the original ridge. Then we rebuilt the dune from our scout photographs, frame by frame, keeping the real tyre tracks and the real spray of sand.

The car is real, the sand it throws is real. Only the hill is a memory.

Nobody at Strada Motors noticed until we showed them the scout photos side by side. We take that as the brief being met.
